"Teresa...I think we should just end it here." I couldn't get myself to look at his face.
After those words left his lips, the noise coming from the soccer field seemed to fade away, just like it does in the movies. Zeroing in on him and I.
One beat. "...Okay." There was no quiver to my voice, it was a firm and final answer; no turning back. I still didn't lift my head as he silently shifted back towards the school.
I could feel him giving me a final look before he turned around and headed back into the school. Awkwardly, I followed him. I couldn't help but think whether or not he had something else to say. But of course, I never asked.
I never shed a tear that day; I didn't even get sad. Well, perhaps a little, after all, he was my first boyfriend.
But that was how it went down; how it ended. It was a simple and clean break up; or so I thought...
